A packed “Valentine’s Jump Up” showed love to the town of Christiansted on St. Croix, Friday night. Street vendors selling food and drinks, artists, shopping, moko jumbies, local businesses and other participants all gathered to dance, eat, purchase Valentine’s gifts and just have fun.
The Christiansted event is a staple within the St. Croix community that not only promotes the economy but is a celebration of culture. Over at Levels, located on Company Street, social media influencer “West Gyul” hosted a pop up shop for a few businesses. Some vendors included Creations, 4, Jyla, Guavaberry Kids, Pin Me Pretty STX, and more. Right outside, food vendor, 340 All in One, sold their specialty fracos and across the street interested patrons viewed art pieces on sale for purchase.
Meanwhile moko jumbies made their way through the crowds as they were frequently stopped for a quick picture. The St. Patrick School Steel Pan could also be seen beating their steel pans as visitors and locals danced through the streets.
Hungry patrons worked up an appetite and had the option of visiting a restaurant in Christiansted or making a line behind a delicious local food vendor. Juliana Vargas, a visitor from San Diego, said, “I heard about the ‘Jump Up’ and had to get a glimpse. I am happy I came because I got the opportunity to try roti for the first time.”
