Gigantic soap bubbles made in the wind were one of the activities at the Children’s Museum of St. Croix, sold out second annual fundraiser May 11 at the St. Croix Tennis Club. According to board member Ellie Hirsh, the play stations were to demonstrate to adults how children can learn through playing.
The point of the event was to raise funds to find a permanent home for the seven-year-old program, started by Winifred “Oyoko” Loving and others. Decorating glasses with tiny plastic forms was one of the most popular games.
In addition to silent and live auction prizes, partygoers won prizes by participating in games. Auction items included original art, jewelry and a jug of tequila concocted and donated by Dan Ackroyd, well-known actor and part-time St. Croix resident.
Adults laughed and played just like kids who paint flambouyant bean pods in pre-school. Painting, coloring, crafting and other artistic activities are featured at the Children’s Museum pop-ups.
Scattered among the games were tables laden with finger foods, cheese, vegetable and fruit plates and a pasta station. For dessert, an ice cream station featured build-your-own sundaes with fruit, nuts and chocolate.
