Mable P. Melchior Dies at 75

Mable P. Melchior

Mable P. Melchior, affectionally known as “Mabes,” “Marbel” or “Merciless Melchior,” died on Sept. 10. She was 75 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lauritz Sr. and Clementina Petersen; sisters: Claudette P. Hart and Mildred Collette P. Bellamy-Pilgrim; nephews: Steve Hart and Vivian Ford; great-nephews: Shane Hart and Tintawee Christian; and great-great-nephew, Jackson B. Roberts.

Mable is survived by her husband of 51 years, Graciano G. Melchior; daughters: Nataya A. Melchior-Munoz and Abena M. Meade; granddaughters: Yari A. Munoz and Yalen E. Munoz; grandsons: Masai and Micah Meade and Kelvin D. Munoz; son-in-law, David S. Meade; sisters: Myrtle Petersen-Court, Rosalind Petersen-Ford and Noeleen Petersen-Christian; and brother, Laurtiz E. Petersen Jr.

She is also survived by nieces: Stephanie Court-Roberts and family, Carol Maldonado and family, Maxine Hart-Young and family, Trinette Bellamy-Pilgrim and family, Teisha Bellamy-Pilgrim and family, Francine Spicer and family, Jenna Petersen and family, Jeanette Christian and family, Asha Christian and family, Nadine Christian and Deserie Ford; and nephews: Bruce Court and family, Clyde Rawlins and family, John Murray and family, Robert Petersen, Johnny Petersen and family, Trevor Ford and family, Brian “Ras Bo-li” Christian and family, Godfrey Christian and family.

Other survivors include sisters-in-law: Magdalene Petersen, Serita Larcheaux, Lois Melchior, Doreen Pruitt, Olivine Durant and Janice Melchior; brother-in-law, Hilario Melchior Sr.; other family members: the Petersen, Melchior, Edney, Bryan Milligan, Williams, Lynch, Court, Ford and Christian families; special friends: “Beach Gang Girls,” Aloma Blake, Joan Dawson, Ivy Williams, Felecia Brownlow, Lydia Hendricks, Mary Harley, Barbara Issac and Yvonne Warner; Winona Lester, Adelle Petersen, Joseph and Terry David, Janice Ross, Joseph and Olive Edwards and family, and the CAHS family.  Mable is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention.

The first viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8. at Turnbull’s Funeral Home and Crematory.  The second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation. Burial will be at the Eastern Cemetery.
