On Monday, Denell Stevens, 21, surrendered herself to authorities on St. Croix for credit card theft. Stevens was apprehended pursuant to an arrest warrant stemming from an ongoing investigation initiated on June 1, 2022, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The investigation, conducted by the Economic Crimes Unit, revealed that Stevens was responsible for the unauthorized use of a complainant’s credit cards. Authorities allege Stevens maliciously stole the complainant’s wallet, subsequently using two of the victim’s credit cards to make numerous fraudulent transactions at various locations, according to the police report.
Following her arrest, Stevens was formally charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, grand larceny, fraudulent use of a credit card, and access to computers for fraudulent purposes, the police report stated.
Bail was initially set at $20,000. However, the Magistrate Judge granted a 10 percent bail reduction. Stevens posted $2,000 bail and was released pending her advice of rights hearing, the report stated.
