The Honorable Robert A. Molloy, Chief Judge, and the Honorable Wilma A. Lewis, District Judge of the District Court of the Virgin Islands, are pleased to announce that the District Court will host a visit by the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, in February 2025.
“It is an incredible honor to facilitate Justice Jackson’s visit and to welcome her to our beautiful Virgin Islands,” Chief Judge Molloy said.
Judge Lewis shared similar sentiments, noting: “We are extremely excited to have the great privilege of hosting Justice Jackson and introducing her to various segments of our community.”
The Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson — the first woman of African-American heritage to serve on the United States Supreme Court — assumed the position of Associate Justice on June 30, 2022, after being nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Jackson served as a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia from 2013 to 2021 and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2021 to 2022. Earlier in her career, Justice Jackson completed three federal clerkships, including a clerkship with Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, whose seat she assumed; worked in private practice; served as an assistant federal public defender in Washington, D.C. and also served as a Vice Chair and Commissioner on the United States Sentencing Commission. Justice Jackson is the first former public defender to serve on the Supreme Court.
During her visit to the Virgin Islands, Justice Jackson will be featured at several events in the territory. Highlights of her itinerary are expected to include a reception hosted by the District Court of the Virgin Islands and the University of the Virgin Islands; events open to the public on the islands of St. Croix and St. Thomas; interaction with local high school and University of the Virgin Islands students; and an event with the federal and local judiciary. Additional details regarding the events will be posted on the District Court’s website, www.vid.uscourts.gov, as they become available.
