The Anderson Stewart Family Foundation has donated $1 million to the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, establishing a donor-advised fund to provide sustainable, long-term support for nonprofit initiatives throughout the territory.
The donation, announced in a press release, marks a new chapter in the Anderson family’s decades-long connection to the U.S. Virgin Islands. While the family has recently stepped back from local business interests, they emphasized their continued commitment to supporting the community through philanthropy.
“On behalf of the Anderson family, we are truly honored to continue our 40-year investment in the Virgin Islands,” said Richard Berry, spokesperson for the Anderson family. “During this time, we have been able to support dozens of nonprofit initiatives throughout the territory, and we are excited to continue these efforts. We are looking forward to helping today and in future generations.”
Unlike one-time grants, the newly established fund is structured to grow over time, with annual distributions made based on investment returns. This model is intended to create a lasting source of funding for local charities. CFVI will help guide the fund’s distributions using its expertise in the territory’s nonprofit landscape, according to the press release.
“The Anderson family has a long history of supporting charitable initiatives in the Virgin Islands,” said CFVI President Dee Baecher-Brown. “The establishment of this fund reflects their desire to maintain a strong connection with the islands and ensure their name continues to be associated with positive change in the community. We are honored by their trust in CFVI and look forward to collaborating to assure a lasting impact across our islands.”
The fund underscores the family’s intent to support the Virgin Islands not only in the present but also for future generations, furthering their philanthropic legacy and bolstering efforts to meet ongoing community needs, the release stated.
