The Virgin Islands Port Authority has issued an update regarding the demolition of the former Addelita Cancryn Junior High School.

The contractor, Custom Builders, began the demolition project in December 2025, and it is currently ongoing. As of now, all hazardous materials within the project area have been abated, removed, and shipped off-island to an approved site on the mainland. Debris hauling commenced this week and is expected to continue for at least three weeks.
Demolition of the structures began June 24 and will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. No work will be conducted on Sundays or public holidays. The demolition project is anticipated to be completed by late September. VIPA advises the public to exercise caution when navigating the area and to adhere to all posted signs.
This demolition marks the start of the first phase of a project to dredge the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. Once the Cancryn site is cleared, it will be used to store and transport dredged materials from the harbor dredging project, which is set to begin next year. For any questions about the project, please contact VIPA’s public relations office at (340) 774-1629 or email info@viport.com.
