Armani Harvey, a fourth-grader at Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School, has been named the U.S. Virgin Islands winner in the 13th annual Doodle for Google competition, a contest open to students from kindergarten through high school across the United States.
Now everyone in the V.I. can help him make it to the finals by voting online.
Competitors designed a Google Doodle inspired by the theme “I am strong because …” If his art wins the finale, it will be seen by millions on the Google homepage.
Harvey is one of the 54 state and territory winners across the country. His doodle was selected from thousands of entries received this year, according to a news release issued on Tuesday by the V.I. Department of Education. And USVI residents can help him get to the final.
In the next stage of the contest, Google will invite the public to vote for their favorite doodle from the 54 state and territory winners, deciding which five students will become the national finalists later this month. To vote, go to the Google contest site, select his drawing (at the bottom of the 4-5 grade page) and cast your vote.
One of those five will become the national winner and have their doodle featured on the Google homepage for a day. National finalists will each win a $5,000 college scholarship, Google hardware and fun Googley swag.
The national winner will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and his or her school will receive a $50,000 technology package for their school/nonprofit organization.
