Now is the time to prepare a submission for Community Development Block Grants — Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding. The Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) is the agency reviewing applications and distributing CDBG-DR funds. Tranch 1 and Tranch 2 funds are available, and its focus remains on disaster-related efforts. Tranch 3 will be released in early 2021, which allows for less directly disaster-related projects.
CDBG-DR grants are funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD), with priority focused on serving those of low- to moderate-income with housing, infrastructure, economic revitalization and public services. Applications can be found on the website: https://www.vihfa.gov/disaster-recovery/resources/becoming-subrecipient. Applicant organizations also should begin to work through the applicant checklist, available at that same site.
CDBG-DR applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so they can be submitted at any time — though sooner is better. Once an idea is formulated, CDBG-DR staff will assist with the application process. Contact Leslie Raymer, territorial assistant director of CDBG-DR programs, at [email protected] to be directed to personnel appropriate to the project.
