St. John, USVI – The St. John Landsharks are hosting a “runner’s choice” 5K and 5-Mile run on Sunday, September 2nd at 8:00 AM. Traditionally, this is the weekend of the annual Love City Triathlon and Aquathlon, but the event was scaled back this year and will consist of a run.
The races will start simultaneously at 8:00 AM. Each course begins and ends at Francis Bay and features a variety of terrain, including trails, road and—for the first time—a finish on the beach. The 5-Mile course includes a portion to Maho Bay and back. Course details can be found at www.stjohnlandsharks.com.
Registration is $5.00 per runner and the event is capped at 100 participants. Walkers are welcome to participate in the 5K (3.1 mile) event. Participants are strongly encouraged to carpool.
There are three ways to sign up:
The top male and female finisher for each course will receive a prize. Water and sports drink will be offered during the race, and light snacks will be provided after. St. John Rescue, VI NPS and VIPD will be onsite to monitor.
An optional pre-race meeting and get-together will take place at The Tap Room on Saturday, Sept. 1 from 4:00-5: 30 pm. St. John Brewers will continue their tradition to provide beverages to athletes and volunteers post-race.
Roads will remain open, but drivers may experience delays on the North Shore Road one-way area and around Francis Bay and Annaberg between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 2nd. Contact the race organizers at stjohnlandsharks@gmail.com for more information.
