Excelman de Lagarde Jr. Dies at 86

Excelman “Celly” de Lagarde

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Excelman “Celly” de Lagarde Jr. of St. Thomas, USVI. He died on May 3, peacefully, at the age of 86, at the RLS Hospital on St. Thomas.  He was born on Sept. 2, 1937, to Excelman and Florence (Monsanto) de Lagarde.

He graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School and furthered his education in learning the electrical engineering trade at which he worked and later became his own boss in this field. He was well known as ‘Celly Electrical’ to many for his excellent work throughout the community. He showed professionalism in his craft and precision work on any project. He also shared his knowledge with many who wanted to learn the trade because he loved the work, and it showed.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Excelman de Lagarde Sr., and Florence Monsanto de Lagarde.

He is survived by his wife, Delita C de Lagarde; daughters: Melissa de Lagarde (spouse, Alvin Silcott), Syria de Lagarde-Thomas (spouse, Henry “Hank” Thomas Jr.); son, Gregory Cruse (spouse, Cheryl Cruse); grandchildren: Brian Roberts, Shereese Mala, Shawn Silcott, Khadijah Estrill, Sherika Silcott, Seriah Silcott, Dior Thomas, Gregory Cruse Jr. and Te’quan Cruse;

He is also survived by step-grandson, Shaquille Thomas; great-grandchildren: Kasidy Roberts, Brianna Newton, Dequan Duncan, Chayne Oneal Jr., Keemayah Ford, Shawn Silcott Jr., Amaya Range, Brayden Bachan, Kayden Bachan and Alessia Cruse; as well as special family, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The viewing will be held at Turnbull’s Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. On Thursday, June 20.

The celebration of life and homegoing service will begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 21, at Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral. Interment will be at Western Cemetery No. 1.
