The Gifft Hill School graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 will be a live event set to take place at 5 p.m., Friday, June 19, on Trayser Field at the Gifft Hill School Upper Campus.
During its 17th annual graduation ceremony, Miles Stair, representing the board of trustees, and Head of School Ken Mills will convey diplomas to the 11 members of the class of 2020. They will be joined by Liz Kinsella, director of curriculum, who will represent the faculty and staff. Kaitlyn Foust will address her classmates and guests as the class valedictorian, and Ki’Janne’ Alfred will address the group as the class of 2020 salutatorian.
Ken Mills said of the Gifft Hill School Class of 2020, “Despite the challenges of two hurricanes, the death of a beloved classmate, and the isolation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the class of 2020 remained united, and stayed focused on their academic work while also making significant contributions to our island communities. Every member of this class faced their own personal and family challenges, yet they volunteered to work with senior members of our community; they served meals to those in need, entertained through song and dance, and inspired us with their activism. GHS is proud that members of the Class of 2020 who earned offers of admission to more than 30 colleges and universities in the United States and the territory, and collectively were awarded merit scholarships in excess of $1,000,000. I applaud the class of 2020 for their individual and collective achievements, but I feel most compelled to thank them for working through their own challenges to help make St. John and St. Thomas become stronger, more resilient and more compassionate places to live.”
The live ceremony is by invitation only and will strictly adhere to the “Open Doors” regulations put forth by Governor Bryan.
