On Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested 63-year-old Lawrence Turnbull, charging him with child abuse and unlawful sexual contact in the second degree, obscene internet contact with a minor, harassment, and disturbance of the peace, reported the V.I. Police Department.
A minor reported to law enforcement that over the past six years, her pastor, Turnbull, fostered a relationship with her, presenting himself as a mentor and father figure, however, Turnbull’s intentions were not genuine. He exploited her trust by engaging in inappropriate physical contact with her despite her attempts to avoid him, according to the police report.
The minor provided evidence where Turnbull acknowledged his involvement in unwelcome sexual contact, indicating that he continued to pursue her even after she expressed her disinterest, the report stated.
His bail was set at $60,000.
