The V.I. Bureau of Internal Revenue has received advanced federal funding from the U.S. Treasury to begin processing the second round of COVID-19 relief checks to Virgin Islanders, Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett announced in a news release issued on Sunday.
According to Plaskett, the funds were released by the federal government as part of the COVID relief legislation.
“Since the first round of stimulus payments, the bureau has been working diligently to disburse checks, and I am certain that they will continue to work expeditiously to process this second round,” Plaskett said. The second round of COVID relief checks approved by Congress in December was to be $600 per person.
On the day he was inaugurated, President Joe Biden called on lawmakers to pass a new relief measure that would include $1,400 per person for relief checks, but that proposal must still work its way through a narrowly divided Congress.
