Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach Esq. will announce the launch of the St. John Street Addressing Initiative (SAI) Bridge Phase at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28. The announcement will be streamed live on the Office of the Lieutenant Governor- U.S. Virgin Islands Facebook Page and aired on the Government Access Channel.
“The Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Division continues to lead the charge of the SAI project for the territory. Initially, we were scheduled to begin the St. John Bridge Phase in April; however, due to COVID-19, the project was placed on hold to ensure the safety of field crews and residents.
The St. Thomas Bridge Phase was completed in January and focused on the downtown Charlotte Amalie area. In February, the towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted on St. Croix were completed. As we gear up for St. John, field crews will actively work in designated areas of Great Cruz Bay, Chocolate Hole, Bethany, San Soucci and Guinea Gut, Bellevue, Glucksberg, Gifft Hill, Pastory, Grunwald and Susannaberg,” said Roach.
“The Bridge Phase on each island brings us one step closer to the implementation of a nationally standardized address grid for the Virgin Islands that will drastically improve navigation and location capabilities for emergency services/responders, postal services, utilities, several key agencies and departments,” said Roach.
The lieutenant governor will highlight the next steps of the SAI project on St. John and provide residents with information regarding the implementation of the new addresses.
