The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated this year as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. In support, the American Nurses Association Enterprise is also celebrating the “Year of the Nurse 2020, Lead, Innovate and Excel.”
The theme highlights the critical value nurses contribute to hospitals and healthcare systems. It raises awareness about the tremendous work that nurses do; it encourages nurses to seek advancement and engage in activities to promote nursing excellence, leadership and innovation, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Darice Plaskett, chief nursing officer, said, “I am very proud of the nurses at Schneider Regional Medical Center. Our nurses have demonstrated bravery, heroism, commitment and nursing excellence while facing the challenges and uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Words cannot adequately express the gratitude for all they do. We proudly celebrate them during National Nurses Week and throughout the year as we continue to care for our community.”
