On Monday, Nov. 11, a domestic violence incident was reported on St. Croix by the victim, who said her partner physically assaulted her after a verbal disagreement resulting in injuries and a police response, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The victim entered the Ancilmo D. Marshall Command Police Station on Nov. 11 to report that Alvin Kentish Jr. assaulted her during a dispute that turned violent. According to her statement, Kentish Jr. became enraged and strangled her, impairing her ability to breathe. In an attempt to free herself, the victim bit Kentish Jr.’s finger, prompting him to punch her in the face, causing visible injuries, according to the police report.
On Friday, Kentish Jr., 46, voluntarily surrendered at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. Upon his arrival, he was advised of his Miranda Rights and agreed to provide a statement. Kentish Jr. acknowledged that a verbal disagreement had escalated to physical violence but claimed his actions of placing his hands around the victim’s throat were an act of self-defense, the police report stated.
Kentish Jr. was arrested and charged with assault second-degree DV. Following his arrest, no bail was set, and he was booked and remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility, where he will remain pending his advice of rights hearing on Monday, the report stated.
