USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service has extended the application deadlines for conservation and easement programs in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands until April 30.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service’s
Agricultural Conservation Easement Program encourages farmers and private landowners to apply for conservation easements to protect and restore agricultural working lands and wetlands through Agricultural Conservation Easement Program. Conservation easements are voluntary agreements between a landowner and a government or non-government entity to preserve a property’s natural character and agricultural potential by limiting the amount and type of development. Easements allow landowners to achieve specific conservation objectives on the land while keeping control of the property. Contact the local NRCS Field Office for details or to apply.
Through the Conservation Stewardship Program, Natural Resources Conservation Service helps farmers, ranchers and forest landowners earn payments for expanding conservation activities while maintaining agricultural production on their land. The Conservation Stewardship Program also encourages adoption of new technologies and management techniques. Contact the local Natural Resources Conservation Service Field Office for details or to apply.
National Water Quality Initiative is a partnership between Natural Resources Conservation Service, state water-quality agencies PR DNER and V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to identify surface waters impaired by nutrients, sediment and pathogens from agricultural sources and address them through voluntary conservation.
