55-year-old Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Upper Love Shooting Incident

On Jan. 2, at around 12:39 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an altercation between a male and female at a residence in Upper Love. Shortly thereafter, ShotSpotter notified that four shots were fired at the same location. Police officers from the Patrol Division arrived on scene and were informed by the complainant that Edwardo Garcia Jr. fired shots at her. Officers then took Garcia Jr. into custody, reported the Virgin Islands Police Department.

A Criminal Investigation Bureau detective assigned to investigate this case found that the complainant traveled to her boyfriend’s house to retrieve some items that she forgot. While there, she got into an argument with her boyfriend’s family, which soon turned into a physical altercation. While the complainant sat in her vehicle, Garcia Jr. approached her with a handgun and began firing shots at her, striking her vehicle. Four spent cartridge casings were collected from the scene, according to the police report.

Garcia Jr., age 55, was transported to the Wilbur Francis Command Police Station, where he was placed under arrest, booked, and transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing. Garcia Jr. was charged with attempted murder, assault first, assault third, carrying a firearm openly or concealed, reckless endangerment first, and aiming or discharging a firearm. His bail was set at $100,000.
