Contractor GEC LLC has completed the concrete pour for the Paul E. Joseph Stadium bleacher walls in the right and left fields, the Public Works Department announced Wednesday.
Currently, GEC is installing steel reinforcement and forms for bleacher stairs and risers at the St. Croix stadium, according to the project update. “The plastering of the exterior walls of the stadium is now underway,” it said.
The project — in the works for nearly 20 years after repeated delays — is scheduled to be completed this year at a projected cost of $27 million, the department said.
GEC, LLC is known for their work on the completion of the Louis E. Brown apartments and senior living villas in 2012-2014.
Paul E. Joseph Stadium was named after a St. Croix legislator, civil rights activist, editor and publisher, who died in 1966. The stadium was named after Joseph in 1964 and after reconstruction it will continue to bear his name.
