AARP in The Virgin Islands is collaborating with the VI Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation to help create universally accessible outdoor spaces by installing park benches.
As part of their livable communities’ work, AARP is excited to announce the construction and installation of five park benches in the St. Thomas/St. John District. The formal unveiling event will be on Thursday, July 20, at William H. Hastie Park (adjacent to the Lucinda Millin Senior Home), from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on St. Thomas. The event is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend.
“Livable communities include public spaces that benefit everyone, and AARP is always advocating for healthy, safe, and vibrant communities for people 50-plus and people of all ages,” said Troy de Chabert-Schuster, AARP-VI state director. “AARP in The Virgin Islands is delighted to provide the St. Thomas/St. John District with benches to allow for seating for people of all ages to gather, socialize, and enjoy. The installation of these benches is another step towards making the Virgin Islands livable communities, and we are happy to contribute to that goal for the residents of the Territory.”
ther installed benches will be available to the public on St. Thomas at the Bordeaux Lookout, Smith Bay Tot Lot, Fairchild Park, Dorothea Tot Lot and Cruz Bay Park on St. John.
