Local artist Augustin Kelvin Holder will show his collection of recent works at the Mango Tango Art Gallery, located on 4003 Raphune Hill, St. Thomas, with an opening reception on April 27 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Gallery owner Jane Coombes has been at the helm of the Mango Tango Art Gallery since it opened in 1988 and became a premier gallery of the Caribbean, exemplifying the true flavors and visuals of local artists, the press release stated.

Coombes continues the mission the gallery was founded upon: to display fine art and artists who take risks in creating meaningful works, it said.

Holder, who is no stranger to the art landscape of the Virgin Islands, said he believes there is an art Renaissance happening in the territory, which he sees as an economic driver in developing communities. His first solo show was at VICA in 2010 and he has shown his work throughout the territory for the past 14 years.

Holder’s latest collection was featured at the Cane Roots Art Gallery in Christiansted, St. Croix in November. His said his work is defined by the cannons of the Abstract Expressionism movement, featuring bold strokes, vibrant colors and distorted lines to tell a story of intrigue.

While creating his own signature style, Holder also stays close to his interpretation of what Caribbean art is, noting that the region is diverse, with a range of elements and style. Guests will be able to see some of his recent works and engage with the artist at the opening reception.
