Boyfriend Charged in Shooting Death of 33-Year-Old Woman

Schneider Regional Medical Center workers found the lifeless body of a 33-year-old woman outside the emergency room at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police charged her boyfriend with murder early Wednesday.

Virgin Islands Police Department officers reviewed surveillance camera footage that showed a dark Acura pull up to Schneider Regional Medical Center. A Black male in a white shirt exited the car and pulled the woman from the passenger seat. He left her on the ground and drove away, according to court records.

The victim was identified as Latifa Raimer, also known as Latifah Raimer. She appeared to have died from a single gunshot wound, according to court records.

An officer recognized the man in the video as a high school classmate, Dana Joseph Jr., 35, of Nisky. The officer called Joseph and arranged a surrender near the WAPA tanks in Sub Base around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Police described Joseph as “emotional.” He appeared to have dried blood on his hands, arms, face, and dark denim trousers. Police found physical evidence strongly suggesting Raimer had been killed inside the Acura, according to court records.

Joseph was charged with murder, assault, use of a dangerous weapon in commission of a crime, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing.

Investigators learned Joseph and Raimer had been in a stormy romantic relationship for roughly six years. Family members called the relationship toxic and recalled an August 2024 incident when Joseph allegedly appeared at Raimer’s residence and fired several shots because he believed she was with another man, according to court records.

Despite this, Raimer had been staying with Joseph about a week at his family residence in Nisky, according to police.

On Tuesday, family members told police, the couple left home together in the black Acura to take a friend home. Roughly two hours later, Raimer was dead.

Raimer’s death is the 13th homicide of 2025 and the sixth on St. Thomas, according to the Source Homicide List.*

— The Source Homicide List is a chronological log of the homicides recorded in 2025 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as reported by the VIPD. Cases are broken down by island. While this listing is based on VIPD reports, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides in its listing, which the police and some other media do. This can lead to a discrepancy in the number of incidents reported.
