Brothers Allegedly Involved in Grove Place Robbery Now In Custody

Two brothers who were allegedly involved in a robbery on St. Croix are now in custody, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.

On May 8, between 3 and 4 p.m., a man was walking through the shortcut behind Mutual Homes when he was approached by two men, Jaheem Maxwell and Shaquan George, police reported. Both suspects, who are brothers, allegedly pulled and pointed guns at the victim while George removed $200 cash from the victim’s person. The victim knew both suspects from past encounters, according to the police report.

A warrant was sought for the arrest of both men and was obtained on Aug. 17, the police report stated.

On Aug 25. Maxwell, 26, who was previously arrested on gun possession charges, was arrested and charged with robbery in the first degree. He was unable to post bail, which was set at $75,000 and was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility. He was advised of his rights on Monday, the report stated.

On Wednesday, George, 25, turned himself into police, where he was taken into custody and formally charged with robbery in the first degree. George was unable to post bond, which was set at $75,000 and was transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing on Friday, according to the report.

Both men are also charged with assault in the first degree, carrying or using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, and unauthorized possession of a firearm, police said.
