After being closed for more than two months, Caneel Bay Resort started welcoming guests to its North Shore Road property November 1.
The resort closed on August 25 for off-season maintenance work, which also allowed a crew to build a brand new addition to Caneel’s beach bar area.
Caneel’s new sushi kitchen is scheduled to open Thanksgiving weekend, explained the resort’s managing director Nikolay Hotze.
“We built a new sushi kitchen down near the beach bar and we’ll start offering sushi during the weekend of Thanksgiving,” said Hotze.
The resort also purchased a new, environmentally friendly bus to transport guests around the property, Hotze added.
“We have a new bus coming, a Mercedes Spirit, that is more environmentally friendly,” he said. “It’s a 19 seat bus for transporting guests around the property.”
Caneel also installed two new environmentally friendly generators and is completing a new Kid’s Club for guests.
“We’re very excited about the Kid’s Club,” said Hotze. “It’s going to look really great.”
While closed to the public, crews at Caneel also installed new windows at Turtle Bay Estate House and new tile at the Sunset Terrace.
“We also have new furniture in our Sunset Terrace and we definitely did a lot of maintenance and pruning,” said the resort’s managing director. “The grounds look great. We really did a lot of work during those two months.”
Hotze is expecting a robust high season for the luxury resort, which opened to its busiest month in years, the managing director explained.
“The month of November is the busiest we’ve had in five years,” said Hotze. “December looks good and Christmas is sold out already.”
Looking ahead, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, which owns Caneel Bay, is expecting to renew its lease with the Department of the Interior, Hotze explained.
“The lease is in the works with the Department of the Interior,” he said. “We have done assessments and environmental studies were taken. We’re in a good spot and things should be happening in the coming year and a half or so.”
