A Carnival Cruise Line left St. Thomas Thursday afternoon and then abruptly turned around and returned to port after a crew member was reportedly injured in a fall.
The Carnival Vista returned to the West Indian Company dock so the crew member could receive medical attention, said Mark Sabino, director of marine and cruise services at WICO. The onboard injury may have broken the crew member’s leg.
The nearly 5,000-passenger capacity ship had been in Charlotte Amalie since 7 a.m. and was due to spend Friday and Saturday at sea before an 8 a.m. disembarkation at Port Canaveral. By 8 p.m. Thursday, the ship was underway again on a northern heading.
