Police to Address Friday Shootings in Press Briefing *Update*

Officials from the Virgin Islands Police Department will hold a press briefing at noon on Saturday to address gun violence incidents that occurred Friday on St. Thomas, including one fatal shooting and one that left a man in serious condition in the hospital.

The briefing will be streamed live at facebook.com/VIPoliceDept.

The fatal shooting occurred about 7 p.m. in Bordeaux on the west end of St. Thomas, according to VIPD spokesman Toby Derima. The victim has not been identified.

Police officers responding to a call Friday afternoon in the Coki Point area of St Thomas found a man shot multiple times. He was in serious condition at the Schneider Regional Medical Center as of about 8 p.m. on Friday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to a police report Friday evening, at approximately 2:51 p.m., the 911 emergency call center received a report of a shooting with a man down in the area of Coki Point. Officers traveled to the scene and found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

He was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment, where he was listed in serious condition.

The victim’s name was not released in accordance with VIPD policy.
