Collision on Christiansted Bypass, Two Injured, One Deceased

Saturday on St. Croix police received a report about a collision on the Christiansted Bypass, said the Virgin Islands Police Department.

Police investigation revealed that the incident was two cars, a Chevrolet Equinox heading westbound and a Hyundai Elantra heading eastbound. The Hyundai Elantra entered the westbound lane and struck the Chevrolet Equinox, according to police report. 

The victims involved in the collision were transported to  Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment. Two of them remained at the hospital for observation due to the severity of their injuries, said police.  

The other victim reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision was identified by family member as Deborah Long, 72, as the deceased.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, VIPD reported. 

This case remains open and under investigation by the Virgin Island Police Department  Traffic Investigation Bureau, St. Croix District, according to VIPD.
