 June 14, 2021

At approximately 3:32 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a male requesting police assistance on Hospital Street in downtown Christiansted, St. Croix. Officers traveled to the area and located the man, who indicated that he was at Altona Lagoon when he was hit by gunshots. Officers subsequently traveled to Altona Lagoon, where they discovered a bullet-riddled body in the vicinity of the Altona Lagoon Recreational Center. The victim was later identified as 38-year-old Nicholas A. Miller. The man who requested help suffered a gunshot wound to his right hip and was transported to Luis Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Oct. 16
At 7:50 a.m., it was reported that there was a sighting of the body of a Black man floating in the water in the area of the promenade on Veteran’s Drive. Currently, identification of the man by next of kin is pending. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Oct. 18

At 9:44 p.m., while a taxi driver dropped off two passengers at the Westin Resort, a vehicle blocked the roadway and five men exited the vehicle with guns. They demanded valuables from the taxi driver and the passengers who were visiting the island. The men then left the area in an unknown direction. No one was injured during this incident.

St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island Chief Steven Phillip stated, “There’s an operational plan in place to eradicate these rash of robberies that’s been taking place. We’ve expanded our patrols and will have more visibility.” “We will not allow these individuals to have our community live in fear. The VIPD is committed to taking away the opportunities from these criminals,” Chief Phillips concluded.
