The Crucian Christmas Festival Village ‘MockoVille’ is officially open, named in honor of the legendary stilt walking icon Willard John. The opening ceremony took place on Friday to a crowd of hundreds of people, with 18 moko jumbies present in honor of John’s recognition.

“I’ve been involved in this craft for 49 years and it is my mission, it is my intention to continue to promote and preserve this art form, and I will continue to do that,” said John, founder of Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies. “I ask all our leaders and every one of influence, sit down with our cultural bearers, look at them and ask them what we can do to make sure this art form stays alive. The reason it stays alive today is because it sits on the shoulders of individuals but we need much more support,” he said.

Also honored was Bradley Christian for his contributions to preserving cultural heritage, artistic creativity and playing a pivotal role in ensuring cultural legacy continues to thrive.
