A cruise ship passenger visiting Trunk Bay on St. John was pulled unresponsive from the water on Wednesday and pronounced dead at the scene, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The family of the man, Alfred Fahlstedt, 72, indicated that he had an ongoing medical condition, the report stated. The cause of death is pending the medical examiner’s findings, it said.

A call to the 911 Emergency Call Center reported Fahlstedt had been pulled from the water at Trunk Bay by members and passengers from Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas cruise ship, who started to administer CPR, according to the VIPD.

An EMS team from the Myrah Keating Smith Health Center responded but was unable to retrieve a pulse and Fahlstedt was pronounced dead at the scene, the report stated.

Fahlstedt’s death comes just days after a young businessman, Kwesi Adams, 27, drowned while swimming with his brother on Sunday afternoon near Pond Bay on St. John.

Also Sunday, St. Thomas attorney Ryan Greene was found unresponsive in the water off Platform Beach at the mouth of Magens Bay. Unconfirmed sources say his death was an apparent drowning.

The Symphony of the Seas was one of four cruise ships to call on St. Thomas on Wednesday.
