If you hear a collective groan coming from Cruz Bay Friday morning, it may be the sounds of residents discovering that the parking lot next to the tennis court has been closed until Jan. 10.
Officials from the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation, the government agency that has authority over the parking area, announced the lot will be shut down for maintenance. Once repairs been completed, the lot will be used as a staging area for inauguration activities that are scheduled to take place on St. John on Jan. 9.
The more-than-30 drivers that normally find spots at the lot will have to find alternatives. Signs and flyers have been circulated warning the public that vehicles left in the lot will be towed at the owner’s expense.
