Cruz Bay Underground Project to Close Down Tobacco Road From April 4-8.

A section of Tobacco Road on St. John will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April 4 through April 8. This work will allow WAPA (Water and Power Authority) contractor Haugland VI to install an electrical manhole for the Cruz Bay Underground Project. Pedestrian access and access to Seaside Villas will be allowed, and the road will be open in the evening for pedestrian and vehicular traffic during the evening hours.

The work being completed is part of the St. John underground project that is designed to replace the existing overhead power lines and electrical equipment with underground equipment. Underground electrical equipment is less likely to be damaged by hurricanes, thereby allowing for a faster and more efficient post-storm power restoration process.

Drivers are asked to consider alternate routes and to comply with the directions of flaggers while adhering to all directional signs.
