D’Amour to Take Part in Bronze Medal Match at World Ranking Event

In his first international outdoor tournament of the year, Nicholas D’Amour of the Virgin Islands is on to the Bronze Medal Match at the Kahraman Bagatir Spring Arrows Archery Tournament in Antalya, Turkey.  The bronze and gold medal matches for the Men’s Olympic Recurve division will be held on March 31.

Nicholas had a bye in the round of 1/16 based on his fifth-place finish in the ranking round.  Again, in extremely windy conditions, D’Amour worked his way through the bracket.  In the 1/8 round, facing Ozodbek Ungalov from Uzbekistan, in a five-set match, D’Amour won 6-4.  He next faced Rashed Alsubaie of Saudi Arabia in the quarter-finals.  D’Amour again won 6-2.

After his first two wins, it set up a match against Marcus D’Almeida, the number one ranked archer in the world and the number one seed in the tournament.  In this semi-final match, D’Amour was initially down two set points, but he battled back.  In a close five-set match, D’Almeida won 7-3.  The semi-final matches were made up of three archers ranked in the top eight in the world.

This now sets D’Amour up for the bronze medal match against Clement Jacquey of France.  The gold medal match will be against D’Almeida and Mete Gazoz, ranked number 8 in the world and the Olympic Champion in Tokyo 2021.  is ranked number six in the world.  The number three ranked archer in the world, Miguel Alvarino Garcia of Spain, was eliminated by Jacquey in the 1/8 round.
