A broad area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms several hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, and some slow development of this system is possible during the next several days while the system moves west across the central tropical Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

In its Sunday 5 a.m. update, the NHC gave the system a 10 percent chance of further tropical development in the next 48 hourts, and a 40 percent chance of development over the following five days.

The tropical wave extends its axis along 35W S of 20N, the NHC said, moving west at 10 to 15 nautical miles an hour.

“Gradual development of this system is possible, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while the system moves westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic Ocean,” the forecast said.
