District Court to Host Luncheon on Pro Bono Work to Empower Act of 2018

The District Court of the Virgin Islands cordially invites the community to its Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent Act of 2018 (POWER Act) Luncheon, which will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Jury Assembly Room at the District Court in the Division of St. Croix. It will also be offered via video conference in the Jury Assembly Room in the St. Thomas-St. John Division.

Pursuant to the POWER Act, Chief Judge Wilma A. Lewis will facilitate a discussion on pro bono legal services. Panel members attorney Shelby King Gaddy, executive director of Legal Services of the Virgin Islands; attorney Eszart Wynter, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands pro bono honoree; Clema S. Lewis, executive director of the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix; and the Honorable Jessica Gallivan, Superior Court judge, will discuss the importance of pro bono legal services for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking in the community.

For members of the legal community, 1.5 CLE credit hours will be offered. Space is limited to the first 60 registrants in each Division.
