DOL Says Decrease in Workers’ Compensation Maximum Wage Rate Goes Into Effect Jan. 1

Commissioner Gary Molloy of the Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) informs the public that the maximum benefit amount for Disability Income Benefits has decreased from $658.00 per week or $131.80 per day to $645.00 per week or $129.00 per day. This will affect all injuries that occurred on or about Jan. 1, 2023.

In accordance with Title 24, Chapter 11, Section 254 c, income benefits for temporary total disability shall be 66 2/3 percent of the employee’s weekly wage rate at the time of injury, not to exceed 66 2/3 percent of the Average Weekly Wage of the Virgin Islands, nor be less than $60.00 a week, except if the wages earned were less than $60.00 a week. The benefits shall be awarded in a sum equal to said wages.
