The V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) has announced the next step in drafting the Comprehensive Land and Water Use Plan.

“We are moving into the next stage of developing the Comprehensive Land and Water Use Plan with policy directions and possible strategies for implementation.  The policies being drafted now give guidance to make land and water use decisions that address important environmental, economic and social needs of the Virgin Islands. We encourage direct feedback from residents and business owners about the proposed policies at the upcoming meetings and through the website, www.planusvi.com. These policies will lay the foundation for the final strategies and content of the Comprehensive Land and Water Use Plan,” Commissioner Jean-Pierre Oriol said.

“We are at a critical point in the project. Feedback from the community is important. The upcoming town halls provide the community a space to let us know if we are on the right track and where we might need to adjust.”

DPNR is encouraging all to attend a town hall or provide comments online at www.PlanUSVI.com.

During the town hall, attendees can expect a formal presentation with Q&A followed by an opportunity to review proposed policy directions and working strategies with DPNR staff and the project consultant team.  Due to the amount of information to be presented, attendees are welcome to stop by earlier, at 4:30 p.m., before the town hall, to have time to consider more ideas.

After the town halls, feedback and comments can still be received online from July 18 to Aug. 6 through the project website. People are also welcome to take a worksheet from a town hall, fill it out at home, and return it to DPNR by Aug. 6.

For more information and to join the email list, go to www.planusvi.com. Videos and summaries of prior town halls are available on the project website mentioned and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/planusvi).  Light refreshments will be available.
