Dry Conditions Bring Salt to Pond at Salt Pond Bay

CONCORDIA — As most of the island’s residents continued hoping for some relief from the on-going dry weather on St. John, which has not seen significant rain in two months, news of one positive aspect of that arid heat spread last week.

For the first time in about four years, the dry weather and high heat combined to produce salt at the salt pond at Salt Pond Bay. Starting at day break and increasing as the morning wore on, residents could be seen streaming down to the pond with buckets, zip lock bags and even cracker containers, anything to load up with salt and haul back home.
