Education Department Announces Safety Drills Planned at All Schools

The V.I. Education Department announced Thursday that periodic safety drills will be conducted across all schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.

On Thursday, fire drills will take place at St. Croix Central High School and at Ulla F. Muller Elementary School on St. Thomas, the department said.

“During these drills, members of the school community may be seen on nearby fields or open areas, depending on the nature of the exercise. We assure the public that these are only drills, and there is no cause for alarm,” the press release stated.

In the event of a true emergency, the public will be informed promptly through official VIDE platforms, it said, adding that everyone is encouraged to rely on these platforms for accurate information related to all public schools.

Additionally, parents and guardians are reminded that there is no need to visit school campuses during safety drills and are asked to always follow the guidance of the department to support the smooth implementation of emergency and non-emergency protocols, the release stated.
