The grand opening of the Estate Adventure Pavilion & Trail will take place on Friday on St. Croix at 9:30 am, AARP-VI announced Monday.

AARP in the Virgin Islands, together with the 2023 AARP Community Challenge Grantee, the VI Trail Alliance (VITAL), and Community Partners, joined together to make this event happen, according to the press release.

The event is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend, it said.

The formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a guided tour led by Dr. Olasee Davis, will commemorate the grand opening, the press release stated.

Located in Estate Lower Love area across from the V.I. Agriculture Department, the trail set across two miles offers users a flat, shaded walking path under a natural tree canopy. Designed to offer users with limited mobility, including older and disabled adults, the trail provides easy access, ensuring a livable community where people of all ages and abilities can live and thrive, the release stated.

Resting areas with benches constructed by My Brothers Workshop offer users a place for rest and convenience. Another unique feature of the trail is the use of QR codes throughout the path that provide educational information about the environment and other elements of the trail, it said.

AARP’s 2023 Community Challenge Grant provided the VI Trail Alliance and Partners with the funding to complete the trail, which is equipped with bridges and a pavilion. The Agriculture Department collaborated in granting VITAL access to the land for public use, according to the release.

This project is the latest example of the creativity of the VI Trail Alliance that offers Virgin Islanders and visitors a chance to experience the history and natural beauty of the US Virgin Islands,” stated AARP-VI State Director Troy de Chabert-Schuster.
