Fawkes Encourages Voters to Ensure Their Registration Status Remains Active

Title 18 VIC, Chapter 5, §110, as amended, requires that every registered voter in the U.S. Virgin Islands who has not voted since 2016 update their voter registration status. Letters were mailed to voters on Aug. 15, and the voter has 30 days to respond to the notice, either personally or by mail, with a written request for reinstatement of your registration, setting forth your place of residence and your mailing address.

This written request for reinstatement must be signed by you and reach the Elections System of the Virgin Islands office in your district no later than 5 p.m., Sept. 14.

Supervisor of Elections Caroline F. Fawkes is encouraging voters to please contact their respective district office to find out their registration status to ensure their registration status remains active.

Voters can visit the Elections System website at https://www.vivote.gov/status to complete the form electronically and return it. Office locations, phone numbers and times are as follows:

St. Croix Elections Office-Sunny Isles Shopping Center, Unit 26 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily) 773-1021

St. Thomas Elections Office t Lockhart Gardens (Upstairs Banco Popular) (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily) 774-3107

St. John Elections Office- Market Place Suite II. (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) 776-6535

If a voter is placed as an inactive voter, the voter is still registered to vote. The voter may update their registration any time before 7 p.m. on Election Day or during Early Voting and receive a ballot. Before a voter may vote, the voter will be required to complete an affirmation of current and continuous residence as prescribed by the Supervisor of Elections.

On this form, the voter must affirm that they continue to reside at the address at which the voter is registered, have moved within the same district, or have moved to another district within the Virgin Islands. The voter registration status will be reinstated to active once the voter completes the voting process.

Masks or facial covering must be worn correctly covering the nose and mouth, hands sanitized before entry, temperature screening and 3 ft. social distancing.
