Sen. Donna Frett-Gregory, in collaboration with senators DeGazon, Barnes and Sarauw, is championing the fight for women’s heart health by participating in National Wear Red Day on Friday, Feb. 1. This 28-day campaign seeks to bring awareness to the number one killer of American women, heart disease.
Concerned about the health of women throughout our territory, Sen. Frett-Gregory wanted to partner with her female colleagues to host a health screening for all women of the 33rd Legislature on both the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses.
“Many people think of heart disease as a problem that primarily targets men. I want to empower women in the territory to check the health of their hearts regularly. This is very important for the overall health of our wellbeing. In addition to the health screening, we will be wearing red on Friday to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease among women,” said Frett-Gregory.
The health screening will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, for all women on the Legislature staff.
“Though our heart is the root where our love for our families and communities begin, we must remain diligent in ensuring it remains healthy and strong. Get your annual heart health checkups to ensure we can remain healthy to continue spreading the love,” said Sen. Allison DeGazon.
As one in three women die from heart disease every year, the four senators Frett-Gregory are calling on businesses and government entities throughout the territory to join them in wearing red this Friday in support of improving heart health among women.
