Finance Commissioner Bosede Bruce tendered her resignation from the Bryan-Roach Administration Cabinet effective immediately, Government House announced Wednesday.
Bruce did not give a reason for her departure in her resignation letter to Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.
“I loved working with and leading this hard-working group. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the people of the Virgin Islands,” she wrote.
Bryan wished her well.
“I am grateful for Commissioner Bruce’s service to the people of this Territory while serving as Finance Commissioner in the Bryan-Roach administration and wish her the best in her future endeavors,” the governor said.
Bryan nominated Bruce to the post in April 2021, praising her more than two decades of experience in accounting and finance.
She replaced Kirk Callwood, who was ousted in October 2020 over unauthorized stipends for staff. Then assistant Finance Commissioner Clarina Modeste took over the post in an acting capacity at that time. On Wednesday, she was named acting Finance commissioner once again.
A native of St. John, Bruce returned to the territory from Chicago, where she worked as the comptroller for Echelon Property & Casualty Insurance. Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tuskegee University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of the Virgin Islands.
