First Stop Convenience Store to Offer Low Prices

First Stop owner Karim Salem took a break from renovations last week.

St. John residents will soon have a new place to shop for groceries when First Stop Convenience Store opens in Raintree Court in just two weeks, and not only is the store conveniently located in Cruz Bay, First Stop will offer seven parking spaces and the lowest prices possible.

The store will feature everything from a deli to grocery items, frozen foods, snacks, batteries, phone cards and a large selection of wine and liquor, according to First Stop owner Karim Salem.

“We thought St. John needed more options for groceries, and we wanted to give better prices,” said Salem. “If you offer a variety, people will be much happier to shop here instead of going to St. Thomas. We’re trying to keep the prices as low as we can go.”

Salem and his family own three convenience stores on St. Thomas. In addition to grocery items, First Stop will sell cigarettes and cigars. St. John residents will undoubtedly be happy to see a selection of fresh produce.

“We’ll have fruits and try to make them as fresh as possible,” said Salem.

Salem and his family have been busy supervising renovations at the store, which is near the Fish Trap in the old Love City Surf Shack location.

“We’ll try the best we can to provide good customer service and low prices,” said Salem. “We’re located close to the ferry, and we’re the only convenience store in town right now. We just hope to see people here.”
