Florida Man Drowns at Trunk Bay Beach

A Florida man vacationing on St. John drowned Monday afternoon at Trunk Bay Beach, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to a news release issued Wednesday, at 5:38 p.m., Jan. 4, officers were dispatched to Trunk Bay Beach in response to a report of a drowning. Emergency medical technicians performed CPR on a white male and concluded he was deceased.

The victim was identified by family members as 47-year-old Nathaniel Outcalt of Venice, Florida.

Police were told that Outcalt, who was on vacation, went snorkeling with his family. After a short period of snorkeling, a family member noticed Outcalt floating motionless in the water, swam out and pulled him to shore. Bystanders called 911 and assisted with CPR until the emergency response team arrived.

VIPD Tourism officers and officials from the V.I. Department of Tourism are working with the victim’s family to assist them during this time, the police statement said.
