Four Virgin Islanders to Compete at Tokyo Olympic Games in July

The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee has announced its delegation for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo this July. Originally planned for 2020, the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games have been delayed for a year due to the pandemic. This has been a huge complication in the usually challenging and stressful process of training and qualifying for Virgin Islands athletes and athletes all over the world. The committee is incredibly proud of these athletes’ hard work during this unusually difficult year.

Olympian Eddie Lovett is back on the track for the 110m hurdles event in Track & Field. Lovett represented the USVI at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. https://worldathletics.org/athletes/virgin-islands/eddie-lovett-14425484

Swimmer Natalia “Nati” Kuipers holds the current national record for the 400m freestyle and will be swimming in that event in Tokyo. https://www.fina.org/athletes/1057155/natalia-jean-kuipers

Archer Nicholas D’Amour ranks 9th in the world for the men’s Olympic recurve and will compete in this event in Tokyo. Archery became a recognized Olympic Sport in the Virgin Islands in 2014.
