Good Friday Interrupts Happy Hour

Woody’s Seafood Saloon, above, whose customers generally spill out onto the sidewalk during the bar’s popular happy hour, stands eerily silent at the start of happy hour, 3 p.m., on Good Friday, April 6.

The V.I. Code states distilled alcohol is not allowed to be sold at bars and restaurants in the territory on Good Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. V.I. Police Department officials enforce the ban to include all alcoholic beverages including wine and beer. The liquor was flowing after 4 p.m. at establishments across the island.

Quiet Mon Pub, above, also stood empty because of the V.I. law. The seven-hour span is the only time the law calls for prohibition.
