Great Deals, Family Fun at Mongoose Junction’s April 6 First Friday Event

Mongoose Junction will celebrate renewal with its April 6 First Friday event, the first to be held since Hurricane Irma made a direct hit on St. John. First Fridays take place on the first Friday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m., and many Mongoose businesses will offer discounts and fun activities throughout the evening.

April’s First Friday celebration serves a dual purpose, as it will mark the very special 40th anniversary of Mongoose Junction.

This lively, family-friendly event will also include a fundraiser for the Love City Pan Dragons, who will be performing from 5 to 7 p.m. in the courtyard at Mongoose’s main entrance and selling t-shirts, bracelets, and bumper stickers to support the non-profit steel band.

Deals and activities at the event will include:

  • Bajo el Sol Gallery will be hosting the opening of “Aftermath,” an exhibition of works made by Virgin Islands artists in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Featured artists include Kurt Marsh Jr., Shansi Miller, Kimberly Nogueira, Ayn B. Riehle, Susan Edwards, Lisa Etre, Ensor Colon, David Knight Jr., Daniel Benson, P-La, Annie Caswell, and student artist TJ Schutt. This exhibition is a reminder that despite the destruction brought by September’s two Category 5 hurricanes, creativity has sprung up in the aftermath.

  • Caravan Gallery will be giving out free sterling silver petroglyph charms with purchases of $40 or more

  • The Friends of the Park store will be offering 20 percent off all items storewide, with additional deep discounts on select items

  • Island Fancy will host author Jeffrey R. McCord, author of two island-based mystery novels: Undocumented Visitors in a Pirate Sea, and Santa Anna’s Gold in a Pirate Sea

  • Lulee will be offering an outfit deal: buy a pair of denim and receive 20 percent off any top

  • St. John Scoops will offer free face painting for kids from 6 to 9 p.m.

  • Sun Dog Cafe will be serving fabulous free finger food at the bar

  • Vibe Jewelry will be opening at Mongoose and will celebrate by offering a free charm with every purchase
