GlobalGiving is a 501 nonprofit organization based in the United States that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects. According to the organization, since 2002 more than 950,000 donors on GlobalGiving have raised more than $430 million to support more than 24,000 projects in 170 countries.
In a Monday news release announcing the campaign, the V.I. Children’s Museum said it would love the community’s support of its “At Home Discovery Kit” program as well as help to cover the expenses of being the USVI affiliate in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.
The museum opened in 2016 with explorative learning exhibits. The interactive museum’s exhibits prompt children to explore science, technology, geology, engineering, anatomy, aeronautics and more while having fun.
Damage from the 2017 storms forced the museum to move out of its long-time home near Emancipation Garden and into a temporary location at the old Radio Shack in Buccaneer Mall. The museum was able to salvage and move five of its original 30 exhibits, including the iconic head of Jasper the T-Rex. The staff also created several new exhibits before reopening in 2018 at another spot in the Buccaneer Mall.
Like many non-essential operations, the museum is currently closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic.
